Senior Dating

So you’ve met someone on a senior dating site, your new relationship is going well and love is in the air!  You’ve spent time talking and flirting online and now you have gone on a couple of dates. This is all good news for you and your new squeeze, but now you are considering taking your new relationship to the next level.

Many seniors worry about physical intimacy, especially if they have been on their own for a while. So let’s check out some of the most common worries and facts about physical intimacy that seniors have.

When Should You Have Physical Intimacy?

There are no hard and fast rules about this. On the first date, the third date, after a few months, never….it all depends upon how you and your new partner feel about it.

Many people have an active sex life well into their 80s. Some people, including those who are married, find they stop having sex in their 50s.  However, we have one word of caution; if you would like to have a physical relationship with your new partner and all the signs are there that they would like the same, it is a good idea to do this sooner rather than later.

If not, your relationship will remain platonic and you might permanently cross into the friend zone.  This is fine if you are both happy with it, but not if one of you wants more!

Don't Let Worries and Insecurities About Your Body Hold You Back!

Remember when you were in your twenties and you stressed over every aspect of your body? Now with a few more decades on the clock, you are probably wondering what you were worried about!

We all age. Our bodies are not as they once were. It would be unrealistic to expect to have the body of a 20-something when you are in your sixties.

The good news is, you can still look fabulous. Just make sure you are well-groomed, clean, and well-dressed right down to your underwear. If you feel desirable and attractive, your new partner will believe it too. Remember, they also have their own anxieties.

Don't Feel Guilty!

Desiring sex again can feel like you are betraying a long-term partner, especially if you have suffered bereavement. The truth is that sex is a perfectly normal part of life, and if you want a sexual relationship there is no need for guilt to hold you back.

It can be embarrassing to have a new sexual relationship, especially if you have grown-up kids, but it is your life and your right as an adult to do this. The kids may be uncomfortable with it at first because we never like to think of our parents having sex, but they will soon get over it if they are happy in their new relationship.

Take Precautions!

Finally, it may seem unnecessary at this stage in your life but it is a good idea to use condoms at first. You do not want to contract or pass on a sexual disease. Even if you or your new partner has been sexually inactive for a while, some viral sexually transmitted diseases can last a lifetime.
