Seasons of the Heart

Seasons of the Heart

I wrote a poem in 1997, you will find it in the National anthology Isle of View . My first attempt at poetry. It is dedicated to Mike who's heart and soul died in Viet Nam. It is also dedicated to Tom Ohnesorge who died 6/24/67 DaNang South Vietnam from wounds sustained as a medic helping others.

Seasons of the Heart

Spring blossomed love within my virgin heart

In innocence of youth, we vowed ne'er to part

I foolishly thought 'tis God's will

To make time for sweethearts stand still

Summer brought with it Passion, hot upon the grassy lawn

We lay entwined as lovers until the morning's dawn

And hidden just beyond . . . T'was the end of summer

Cloaked in Daybreak's clouded cover

Autumn watched you go, proud in uniform of green

To fight a war in Viet Nam, a land you'd never seen

Not knowing to leave me meant Forever

To return home would be Never

Winter chilled my soul in killing-frost

Leaving my life lonely and lost

It was then you whispered ghostly to me

"Mourn no more, for everything is as it should be!"

The sun rose and shattered my Obsidian darkness

Where I had stumbled in black shadows heartless

Seasons of my heart were born anew

But Soldier Boy I shall always love you

Hallelujah
152 Views          02/19/10
I first heard K.d. Lang sing "Hallelujah" and the music coupled with the voice moved me to tears.   The second time I heard her sing "Hallelujah" was at the  opening night of Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 on my television, and again the song evoked within me copious tears that streamed down my cheeks, hot and salty as tho a dam had burst.  My emotions felt raw and ragged as I listened to the song.  Memories came unbidden, like muddy swirls filling my mind, my heart, my soul.  All of us have moments like this..moments that swiftly emerge, as if we were in a firefight, and then as abruptly it ends, leaving one vulnerable and shaken.
Perhaps what I realized most about my thoughts, were the fact that as a widow, one buries a love deep within strong walls hidden in the mind.  Years pass, life gently heals, and when you are certain the door is sealed forever...a simple song, beautifully written, beautifully sung, breaks down the door, and you realize something....
As the song relates:  "Its not a victory cry...Hallelujah"
                                  "Its a cold and broken...Hallelujah"
